Art Presentations/ Conference
LASANAA, in collaboration with NexUs Culture Hub, organizes different talks, presentations and interactions between artists, writers, thinkers and the community throughout the year. Programs are centered on art, philosophy, community, socio-political affairs and life. All events are held in the NexUs hall located on the first floor of the NexUs Culture Hub building.
Conversations on Creativity: Every month, an artist is invited to make an informal presentation centered on her/his creative practice. Artists, making use of different media and styles come to talk about their field of work.
Life Matters: Life Matters is a series of guided conversations based on Buddhist philosophies. Refraining from being a religious activity, the program is primarily organized to celebrate and talk about the spiritual idea in Buddhism.
Traditional Nepali Kite Making (18th March 2018)
The purpose of the workshop is threefold: to produce the kites that will become a part of my artwork for an exhibition at LASANAA, to pass along knowledge from an older generation to a younger one, and to add an additional lesson of my own about how designers and artists can understand material and form from a human-centered technical, social, and environmental point of view.

The workshop will run 12pm to 3pm on Sunday, March 18th
All materials will be provided
All participants will be compensated for commute expenses to attend and lunch will be provided.
About the instructor/Artist
Mark Bechtel is an artist in Residence at LASANAA. He is an Assistant Professor of Product Design who has been teaching in the undergraduate Product Design and graduate Industrial Design programs at Parsons School of Design in New York for the last twelve years. During this time, he has held multiple roles in design education, including Interim Director for the Product Design program and Chair of the curriculum committee for the School of Constructed Environments. Additionally, other activities have included acting as a panelist for an exhibition, Private Choices, Public Spaces, by the feminist architecture collective, ArchiteXX, and presenting at the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education conference in Los Angeles.
Murchana: Started in 2015 by Prabhakar Gautam, Murchana is a discussion program organized in collaboration with Bookaholics and Alag Abhiyan. The talks focus on music and its relationship to society and the community.
Musical artists and anyone related to this field is invited to give a talk on music, its history and how it affects society.
Legendary Nepali singer Prem Dhoj Pradhan was featured on the first issue of the project. Since its inception, various popular singers like Abhaya Subba and Jhuma Limbu took to the stage to speak about how their art makes a difference in the world.
LASANAA organizes various art related workshops for artists, students and the community at-large. The workshops focus on critical thinking while analyzing and questioning contemporary issues.
